A rumour about a high-profile minister of the Manipur government having a fierce fight with a youth at a restaurant located at Mantripukhri here in Imphal spread on the instant messaging platform, WhatsApp. The identity of the Minister and the girl dating another person had been mentioned in the WhatsApp message however, Imphal Times is yet to verify them officially. According to a report, coincidentally two cases have been taken up at Heingang Police Station in connection with an incident that happened at the same place around the same time.
According to the report, the incident happened at around 8 pm yesterday evening. The minister along with his escorts find his girlfriend sharing a table at the restaurant at Mantripukhri. For reasons not known the Minister had a heated argument with the youth, following a physical confrontation.
The viral WhatsApp message said that the person who fought with the minister was personnel of the Indian Armed Forces. He allegedly ran inside an Indian security force battalion located nearby. It also said that the girl encircling the confrontation is a well-known Manipuri film actor. Following the report, a team of State police led by the SP of Imphal East rushed to the site.
When Imphal Times tried to verify the incident, no witness was ready to confirm the identities of those involved in the fighting but said that there was a fight between high-profile VIPs at the restaurant located at Mantripukhri. Interestingly, the fighting over the girlfriend happened when Manipur is reeling under crisis for over 5 months and when people are demanding solutions to the crisis from their respective Ministers and MLAs.
