A complaint against the District and Sessions Judge Imphal West was lodged with the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court today over the matter of granting Anticipatory Bail to Manipuri film Actress Manda Leima, her husband Boyai and another one person in a POCSO case registered earlier with the Women Police Station of Imphal West. The complaint was filled by one Yumkhaibam Ongbi Sandhyarani of Uripok Polem Leikai.
She has also filed another petition to the State Human Rights Commission praying to monitor the progress of the investigations being carried out in the case registered with the WPS/IW bearing FIR No. 29(9) 2021 WPS-IW u/s 366-A/368/354/34 IPC & 30 POSCO.
The case pertains to an incident that had occurred in 2019 and the police had been dragging its feet over it and recently upon the intervention of the Chief Minister they had registered a regular FIR and although four persons were named in the police complaint only one person was taken into police custody while female actor Manda and her husband and another person could not be arrested as they had already taken anticipatory bail.
In her complaint to the Chief Justice, Sandhyarani had stated that it is a high profile case as Manda is a well-known female film actor of Manipur and her husband a former member of a proscribed Under Ground group of Manipur.
It might be recalled that in 2019 Manda and her husband and a few others had allegedly kidnapped Shandhyarani’s physically disabled daughter and had her confined with them overnight during which she was sexually molested.
