Hemchand Ningthoujam was conferred the Best Actor award at the 24th Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival 2025–26, held at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal. The festival was organised by the Manipur State Kala Akademi in association with Rupmahal Theatre.
19 theatre group presented their productions during the festival, which ran from December 24 to January 14. The award ceremony was attended by Pukhrambam Bilash, Director of JN Manipur Dance Akademi, as the Chief Guest, while S. Lakhikanta, Chairman of Rupmahal Theatre, presided over the event.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Guest Pukhrambam Bilash lauded the dedication and talent of the participating theatre groups, highlighting the vital role such competitions play in promoting theatre arts and recognising outstanding performers in Manipur.
Hemchand Ningthoujam received the accolade for his performance in the play NUMITTUNA, where his portrayal of the character “Ningthem” won critical acclaim for its depth and nuance. The award reflects his outstanding contribution to Manipuri theatre and marks another milestone in his artistic career.
