Imphal, Feb 20:
Intense political discussions are underway as BJP legislators in Manipur deliberate on the formation of a new government following the resignation of the Chief Minister. Former Minister Yumnam Khemchand, Lamlai AC MLA Kh. Ibomcha, Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam, and Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr. Y. Radhesyam met with BJP Manipur Pradesh President A. Sarda at Thambal Sanglen in Nityaipat Chuthek today around 2 PM.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Y. Khemchand remained tight-lipped about the next Chief Minister, stating, “It is the central leadership that will decide.” He also emphasized that with the legislature leader’s resignation, the party president would now play a crucial role in appointing the new leader.
Political discussions among BJP MLAs are intensifying, with some expecting an early resolution, while others believe the process might take longer. However, sources indicate that there is no visible factional divide among the MLAs, nor has any camp been formed within the party.
Amid the ongoing uncertainty, speculation about forming a regional party has also emerged, though no concrete plans have been revealed. Political observers suggest that any significant shift will depend on future developments and decisions from the BJP central leadership.
The question of when the new leader will be appointed remains unanswered. While some believe the process may take time, there has been no official word from the central leadership regarding the timeline. BJP legislators continue their deliberations on the structure of the new government, and an official announcement is awaited.
