Haomee condemns threats to Tangkhul community

The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has strongly condemned the incident of threat and harassment involving members of the Tangkhul community by individuals from the Kuki community on June 26 along National Highway 202 (Imphal–Ukhrul road).
In a press statement, FoH said that a group of Kuki individuals reportedly stopped a passenger vehicle traveling from Imphal to Ukhrul and harassed a female Tangkhul passenger and the driver near Mongkot Chepu village. The federation alleged that the Kuki group, claiming to act under the orders of their village authority, conducted an unauthorised checkpoint and threatened the passengers, demanding to verify their identity.
The Federation of Haomee termed the incident as unacceptable and accused the group of disturbing peaceful travel along the highway, which connects multiple communities including Meetei, Kukis, and Tangkhuls. It noted that this form of intimidation and communal checking undermines the social harmony of the region.
The federation further urged authorities to take strict action under customary and legal frameworks to punish those responsible. It stressed that the driver and passengers were innocent civilians who should not be subjected to such harassment.
Calling for the rule of law to prevail, the Federation of Haomee urged the registration of an FIR and a proper investigation into the matter. It also appealed to community organizations, including the Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association, to stand united against such divisive acts.
