Imphal, Oct 10:

Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister N Biren Singh among others today wishes the people on occasion of Durga Puja.
In his message to the people of the state, Governor Lakshman Prasad said “Durga Puja is one of the most popular festivals among the Hindus in the country and it is celebrated with great religious fervour and gaiety in Manipur. The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil and people from different walks of life, both young and old, join in the celebration. Apart from being a significant religious event, the festival also brings about emotional integrity among the people. Let us all join in praying to Goddess Durga, the destroyer of evil and harbinger of peace, for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.”
In his message Chief Minister said that Durga Puja epitomise the eternal message of victory of good over evil. “Durga Puja is celebrated every year across the country in worship of Goddess Durga, during the Ashvin month, the seventh month of the Hindu calendar. The festival is considered very auspicious since it signifies the triumph of righteousness over evil. According to mythology, Mahishasura, a demon who was blessed with a boon that no human or a deity can kill him, was vanquished by Goddess Durga, to stop the terror and damage caused by the demon. The festival gives a message that none is above the order of nature and the law of the land, regardless of the power and position he or she occupies. As such, the festival inspires us to follow the path of righteousness and not to do anything which may cause harm to other people and the society at large. As we celebrate the festival, let us resolve to refrain from all forms of violence and contribute our part in restoring peace and normalcy in the state through peaceful means. May Goddess Durga give us the strength to face all evil forces trying to disintegrate the age-old bond of brotherhood among different communities residing in the state.”
