Imphal, Feb 26:
The State Home Department of the Government of Manipur issued an order on March 16, 2024, to grant compensatory allowances for state police commandos and other civil police personnel deployed in vulnerable areas. This was in compliance with the decision made during the state cabinet meeting held on February 9, 2024. The order, issued in the name of the governor, stated that an allowance of Rs. 5000 per month would be provided to commandos and personnel on commando duty, while a sum of Rs. 3000 per month would be awarded to other police personnel deployed in vulnerable areas on a pro-rata basis.
However, many commandos and police personnel assigned to these duties have not received the promised compensatory amounts.
“None among our team have received the compensatory amount,” a commando personnel, who wished to remain anonymous, told this reporter. He further expressed concerns over the mental fatigue experienced due to prolonged postings in conflict areas. He claimed that favoritism plays a role in deployment, with those having political connections being posted to better stations while others remain in high-risk areas.
Another police officer, also speaking on condition of anonymity, highlighted the absence of a transparent transfer policy in the police force. He alleged that even if a policy exists, it has never been implemented fairly.
Meanwhile, apart from the Thoubal district police, no other police personnel have received their 13-month pay, despite February nearing its end. The lack of timely payments and transparent policies has led to growing dissatisfaction within the police force, affecting morale at a critical time.
