State government inability to finalize exact location has put on hold the process for setting up of ‘Centre for apparel and garment centre’ in the state. A memorandum of understanding has to be signed for the setting up of the Centres for apparel and garment making including S/I/C of Machineries for the North East States under NERTPS between the state government and the Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India and National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) Limited. Even as all formalities from the side of the Union Ministry of Textile and the NBBC has been completed, the representatives of the state government still have to wait as the exact location for establishment of the site could not be located.
When Imphal Times contact the Principal Secy, Commerce and Industries, Govt. of Manipur, it has been informed that the process for the establishment of the Centres for apparel and garment is in the pipeline. He however said that the site for establishment is still not finalized. When asked about the probable site, Mr. Lakher said that government might consider the site either at Porompat or Lamboi Khongnagkhong.
According to documents available with the Imphal Times, the project will be implemented by the NBCC and is targeted to complete within six months from the date of release of first instalment after handing over of the site. However, execution of work by them shall be based o the approved DPRs includig the cost of machinery, specification ad makes, delivery period etc. as prepared by the consultant appointed by the Ministry of Textile.
