The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who also serves as the Chancellor of Manipur Technical University (MTU), attended the 10th Foundation Day celebration of the university held at its campus in Takyelpat, Imphal.
Addressing faculty, students, alumni, and dignitaries gathered for the occasion, the Governor highlighted MTU’s remarkable progress since its establishment in 2016 as the first and only state-run technical university in Manipur. He lauded the institution’s rapid academic growth, its alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and its emergence as a potential hub for innovation, research, and industry collaboration in the region.
The Governor praised the commitment of the faculty, the achievements of MTU students in national-level competitions, and the university’s efforts to introduce new-age courses in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, Robotics, and Data Science. Stressing the importance of preparing students to lead in an ever-changing global environment, he encouraged them to embrace curiosity, creativity, and compassion in their educational journey.
He urged students to look beyond the pursuit of degrees and instead aim to think deeply, act responsibly, and lead courageously. Describing MTU as a “visionary seed” planted for a self-reliant future of Manipur, the Governor reaffirmed the shared commitment to building a green, smart, and inclusive campus.
He called upon all stakeholders to work in unison to transform MTU into a beacon of excellence not only for Manipur but for the entire Northeast region. He also suggested that the university administration initiate student exchange programmes with other institutions across the country and, in the future, with foreign universities. Advising students to strive for excellence, he encouraged them to bring laurels to the state and enhance the university’s national and international reputation.
The event was attended by Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University; Ramananda Nongmeikapam, Registrar of Manipur Technical University; senior officers; faculty members; and students of MTU.
