Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and other Ministers and MLAs have extended warm greetings to the people of the state, particularly the Naga community, on the occasion of Lui-Ngai-Ni festival 2026, observed annually on February 15.
In his message, the Governor stated that Lui-Ngai-Ni, the seed-sowing festival celebrated by the Naga tribes of Manipur to mark the beginning of the agricultural season and the new year, reflects deep reverence for nature, tradition and cultural heritage. He described the festival as an expression of gratitude for nature’s bounty and a collective prayer for peace, prosperity and a fruitful year ahead.
He observed that the celebration has evolved into a symbol of unity and harmony, bringing together people from diverse communities and strengthening social cohesion. It also showcases the rich cultural diversity of Manipur and upholds the values of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, he added.
In a separate message, the Chief Minister noted that Lui-Ngai-Ni embodies the rich traditions and unity of the Naga people. Marked by traditional songs, dances and customary rituals, the festival signifies new beginnings and renewed hope as the agricultural season commences, he stated.
The Chief Minister called upon all communities to uphold the spirit of harmony, brotherhood and compassion, and to work collectively towards a peaceful and inclusive Manipur. He also expressed hope for a bountiful harvest and wished happiness and well-being for every household in the state.
