Governor chairs JNMDA Advisory Committee meeting

Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla today chaired the Advisory Committee meeting of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) at the Conference Hall of Lok Bhavan, Imphal, where members reviewed key issues relating to the development and future functioning of the premier cultural institution.

The meeting began with members observing a one-minute silence in memory of eminent gurus and distinguished personalities associated with the performing arts who passed away during 2025–26. Tributes were paid to renowned theatre personality Ratan Thiyam, Khumanthem Prakash Singh, Professor N. Tombi Singh, Kshetrimayum Thouranisabi Devi and other departed artistes for their invaluable contributions to the preservation and promotion of Manipur’s rich cultural heritage.

The Advisory Committee deliberated on various agenda items concerning the growth and strengthening of the academy, including measures aimed at enhancing its academic, cultural and institutional activities.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Raju Das, General Council Member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Sanjay Kumar Choudhary, eminent gurus, members of the Advisory Committee and officials of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.

Later in the day, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Dr. Sandhya Purecha, called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan. The meeting is understood to have focused on matters relating to the promotion and development of performing arts and cultural institutions in Manipur.
