Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today conducted an on-ground inspection of several flood-affected parts of Imphal city, visiting key sites along the banks of the Imphal River to assess the severity of the situation.
His visit covered several critical locations including Kangla Nongpok Thong, Lairikyengbam Leikai, and Singjamei Bridge, where flooding has caused major disruptions. The Governor was accompanied by the Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner, Superintendent of Police (Imphal East), and other senior government officials.
During the inspection, Governor Bhalla directed the officials to maintain constant surveillance of the river conditions and initiate preventive measures to mitigate further damage. He also instructed deputy commissioners to make arrangements for the evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas and to set up temporary relief facilities. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been placed on high alert.
The state Information and Public Relations Department issued a public notice highlighting the widespread impact of the flooding. Numerous homes, government offices, and institutions have been submerged due to breaches in the river embankments. Additionally, landslides have been reported in several hill districts, adding to the crisis.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Imphal, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in isolated areas of the state until June 1, further raising concerns about worsening flood conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, while appeals for precaution and preparedness have been made to the public.
