Funeral of Major David Manlun

Imphal, June 8: The last rites of slain Major David Manlun of the Territorial Army was held in Shillong today.
Major Manlun, 32, was killed in an encounter with ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) militants in Tizit subdivision of Mon district in Nagaland on Tuesday night.
The family of the senior army officer, a resident of Shillong, is originally from Manipur’s Churachandpur district.  
Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh yesterday deeply condoled the death of David Manlun in the Nagaland encounter.
Manlun was commissioned as officer in 2010 and his first unit was Naga Regiment.
Three militants were killed in the gun battle and a civilian was caught in the crossfire, Army source said.  Three jawans were also hurt in the encounter.
The body of the slain officer was brought home to the Assam Regimental Centre in Happy Valley, Shillong on Wednesday and was received with full military honour
