Incessant rainfall continues to batter Noney district, triggering fresh landslides, disrupting traffic along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37), and affecting power supply in several areas.
A fresh landslide struck the Rongdai area, about 2 km from Nungba Bazar, on Tuesday morning, blocking a stretch of NH-37. Clearance operations using heavy machinery were launched immediately to restore vehicular movement. The incident came a day after landslides at Nungba Bazar and Nungba Merryland, where road restoration work had already been completed.
The continuous rain also damaged several electricity poles around Nungba, causing power outages and adding to the hardships faced by residents.
Meanwhile, restoration work is underway at the site of the massive landslide and rockslide that occurred on Monday between Luangchum and Awangkhul Part-I and Part-II villages along NH-37. Officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) said efforts are being made to reopen at least a single lane for traffic, provided weather conditions remain favourable.
The highway disruption has left over 100 goods-laden trucks stranded near the CPFP camp at Nungba, affecting the transportation of essential commodities. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues across the district.
