A Free Medical Assessment Camp for Children with Special Need (CWSN) of Machi block, Chandel District was held at Khangshim Village Community Hall on Wednesday. The Medical Assessment Camp was organized as part of Assessing and identifying differently able children at the age group of 6-18 years in 35 Educational Block of the state to provide free education by District Programme Officer, Integrated Education for Disable (IED) under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, (SSA) Chandel in collaboration with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Chandel and State Mission Authority (SMA), Manipur.During the camp, Children with different kinds of disability from villages under Machi block were diagnosed and medically assessed in the category of Hearing Impairment, Visual impairment, Mentally retarded and orthopedically impairment by four specialist doctors. While briefing to the media persons, Wahengbam (O) Joyrani, State co-ordinator, Integrated Education for Disable, SSA Manipur said that the objective of organizing the assessment camp was to indentify and assessing the unidentified differently able children for providing free education in accordance with the Right to Education, (RTE) Act. She further said that after identifying the Children, different Aid and appliances like wheel chair, hearing aid, elbow clutche, Walking sticks, etc., will be provided to them free of cost so that they can also get Education successfully. Lanu Pinky Aimol, District Co-ordination IED/SSA Chandel also told the media persons that free surgery will be conducted at SHIJA Hospital, Imphal for those children who are advise by the doctors during the camp for any corrective surgery.
