Foundation for Freedom should be laid by writers – Prof. N. Aruna

Imphal, Nov.24:  Professor Nahakpam Aruna, who is also the Head of Department of Manipuri Department, Manipuri University today said that foundation for freedom should be laid by true writings of the writers.
“Writers have always been an inspiration in the building of history for freedom of those countries which are Independent. The words from the writers can be considered as the strongest weapon to fight for freedom”, N. Aruna said while speaking on a seminar organized by the Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur  at Manipur Press Club under the theme – Freedom for Literature .
Prof. Aruna however expressed concern about the freedom of the writers of our society today.
“Whether our writers can exercise absolute freedom in expressing their thoughts remain as a big question”, she said and added that writers in today’s contemporary society could not use their pen with complete freedom. If writers can writes freely without obstacle from any section it will help is bringing a changed society, the professor said.
President of Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur Raghu Lrishangthemna, Member Secretary of Manipuri Culture Society Maisnam Rajesh and co-convenor of the society Jayentakumar Singh also attended as guest of honours.
Talking on the rise of Manipuri literature in Bangladesh, Maisnam Rajesh said that it was only in the year 1975 when Bangladesh got freedom that Manipuri literature has been born. He also narrated on the role of the writers during the freedom struggle for Bangladesh.  
Secretary of the Patriotic Writers’ Forum Naorem Rakesh said that writers can never be skipped in the freedom movement of a country.
