Former UNLF Chairman Ningthemcha Sanayaima urges Manipur’s communities to work towards peace

Former United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chairman Ningthemcha Sanayaima has emphasised the importance of unity and mutual understanding among Manipur’s communities, calling for collective efforts to overcome existing divisions and establish peaceful coexistence in the state.

He appealed to a discussion programme organised by the South East Asia Human Rights Association at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal, on Thursday, commemorating a one-day interaction programme on 77 years of  Manipur’s annexation by India in 1949.

Speaking on the historical significance of October 15, Ningthemcha Sanayaima said the day provided an opportunity to reflect on Manipur’s circumstances before and after its annexation.

He noted that continuing divisions and conflicts among communities had compounded the challenges facing the state. He urged people to look beyond their differences and explore ways to live together in peace and harmony.

Ningthemcha Sanayaima maintained that sustained collective efforts were necessary to promote peaceful coexistence among all communities in Manipur. He also called for greater reflection on the prevailing situation and renewed efforts to rebuild trust, understanding and harmony among the people.

Three resource persons shared their perspectives during the programme. They were Dr Homen Thangjam, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU); Dr Feroja Syed, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Dhanamanjuri University (DMU); and Dr Ningombam Shreema, a faculty member of the Department of Political Science at Nambol L. Sanoi College.
