Former BJP spokesperson Oinam Indira joins Congress; appointed as spokesperson

Imphal, Feb 17: Former spokesperson of the BJP Manipur Pradesh, Oinam Indira, who had contested last election in Thoubal assembly constituency against Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today, joined the Congress party.  Indira claimed to join the congress party along with her 7000 active workers and sympathizers from Thoubal Assembly constituency.
A reception programme was organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhavan today morning. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, MPCC President TN Haokip, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, MPCC Spokesperson K Ranjit and MPCC General Secretary Victor Keishing gave warmed reception to Oinam Indira and her supporters.
With her joining to the congress party, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is contesting the upcoming state assembly election from Thoubal Assembly constituency seemed more confident in regaining his seat. Speaking on the reception function said that the joining of Oinam Indira and her supporters to Congress party will strengthen the party in the coming days.
He said the congress party believes in secularism and its main aim is to build a prosperous developed nation. It is this believes that more people have trusted the party and people like Oinam Indira had joined the party.
Oinam Indira said that she left the party as she was not satisfied with the bias attitude  of the BJP while allotting ticket to candidate. Besides she said that women are being used by the BJP as commodities rather than respecting them.
“Not a single woman are given chances to contest the election as BJP candidate in the state assembly election and above this no single women are included in the core committee of the BJP Manipur Pradesh”, Oinam Indira said. She further added that the BJP has derecognized the role of women and even the minority communities.
MPCC President, TN Haokip while welcoming Oinam Indira, declared her as the spokesperson of the MPCC.
