Forest Department organises Half Marathon to mark 72nd Wildlife Week

The Forest Department organised a Half Marathon as part of the 72nd Wildlife Week celebrations under the theme “Together for Wildlife.”

Around 500 people participated in the Half Marathon, which started from Lamboikhongnangkhong Lampak, proceeded towards Phayeng and returned to the starting point.

The event was flagged off by Chief Conservator of Forests (T-I/Wildlife) L. Joykumar, IFS. Chief Conservator of Forests (T-II) Gaithaolu Thaimei, IFS, along with several senior officials of the Forest Department, also participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, L. Joykumar said Wildlife Week is observed every year to create awareness about the importance of wildlife and the natural environment, stressing that human life cannot exist without them.

He said the route covered during the marathon was not merely a physical course but also conveyed the message of coexistence with nature.

He appealed to the public to make collective efforts towards the protection and conservation of wildlife, stressing that every living creature is important and every step taken towards conservation matters.

Certificates and cash prizes were presented to the top five winners, while certificates of participation were given to all the finishers.
