The Foothills Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Dr. Sambit Patra, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), National Spokesperson of the BJP and BJP Northeast Coordinator, highlighting its concerns over the situation in Manipur.
The Committee strongly opposed the demand for a separate administration in the state and urged the immediate cancellation of any proposal to establish Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps for Kuki militant groups at Kharam Vaiphei, J. Thomkholui, Sijang, or in any part of the Naga ancestral territory. It further pressed for the complete eviction of all Kuki militant groups allegedly operating illegally in Naga ancestral lands.
The memorandum demanded a thorough investigation and verification of internally displaced persons in Kangpokpi district and adjoining areas, as well as the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants and Kuki refugees from Manipur in accordance with national security protocols.
Seeking protection of the indigenous Naga community’s rights, the FNCC reaffirmed the need to safeguard customary land ownership as enshrined in the Constitution of India and the region’s customary jurisprudence. It also urged the government to hold local and central security forces accountable for alleged inaction or collusion with armed Kuki militant groups under SoO who, it stated, continue to carry out criminal and terror activities in the region.
