The Federation of Haomee has condemned the killing of two Tangkhul men, allegedly by Kuki militants, and questioned the response of the Manipur Government.
In a statement, its President Sapamcha Jadumani said the incident took place yesterday at around 2:30 PM when armed militants reportedly opened fire on vehicles travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul, killing Chinaoshang Showungnao and Yaruingam Vashum on the spot.
The Federation said the incident comes amid widespread protests over earlier violence, including the killing of a five-year-old child and an infant in Tronglaobi, and added that repeated attacks on civilians have triggered strong public outrage.
Questioning the government’s handling of such cases, the statement alleged that no concrete legal action has been taken against those responsible. It also criticised the authorities for limiting their response to ex-gratia announcements and transferring cases to the National Investigation Agency without ensuring accountability.
Sapamcha Jadumani further asked whether any effective legal measures have been taken to curb such attacks, stating that assurances alone would not resolve the crisis. He also called for a review of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki groups, saying stronger measures are needed to address the ongoing violence.
The Federation also called for unity among communities, stating that the continuing violence has affected all sections of society.
