Imphal, Feb 14:
In a bid to empower internally displaced people (IDP) and provide them with opportunities for self-sufficiency, the Federation of Community Organizations for Social Service (FOCS) and the Wanghkhei Apunba Nupi Lup have jointly launched this initiative. The inauguration of a market shed aims to offer refugees a platform to sell their produce and earn a livelihood.
FOCS President Th. Manihar expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing the importance of enabling refugees to generate income. He highlighted the potential for refugees to sell products such as soaps and detergents, which they produce within the confines of relief camps. Manihar underscored the significance of providing refugees with a designated market space, thereby reducing their reliance on informal selling practices.
By establishing market sheds, refugees can transition from roaming vendors to established sellers, enhancing their economic stability and dignity. Manihar called upon Meira paibi and local clubs to support and encourage similar initiatives, recognizing the positive impact they can have on refugee communities.
The inauguration of the market shed represents a step towards fostering economic empowerment and self-reliance among refugees. Through collaborative efforts and community support, initiatives like these have the potential to transform the lives of displaced individuals, offering them hope for a brighter future.
