Imphal, Nov 23:
In response to a horrific incident in Jiribam District’s Borobekra Sub-Division, where three children and three women from the Chin-Kuki-Zo community were brutally killed in Jakuradhor village on November 21, Federation of Civil Society Organizations (FOCS), Manipur, has demanded legal action against Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip. In an interview with the online news platform The Wire, the BJP MLA allegedly justified such acts by describing them as part of ethnic conflict instigated by the Kuki community.
FOCS called upon the state and central governments to take legal action against the MLA, citing his statement as incitement to violence and holding him accountable for the ongoing two-year-long ethnic violence in Manipur. The organization also urged disqualification of the 10 Chin-Kuki-Zo MLAs, including Haokip, from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, describing them as masterminds of the prolonged unrest.
Manipur’s various civil society organizations have united in pressing the government to act decisively. They demand that those responsible for the heinous atrocities—targeting women, children, and the general public through terror tactics—be brought to justice. FOCS emphasized that failure to act would undermine the state’s sovereignty and rule of law.
The Federation further appealed to both state and union governments to recognize the perpetrators’ actions as acts of terrorism and take strict measures accordingly, including declaring individuals like MLA Haokip as terrorists. The collective demand reflects widespread public anger and the urgent need for justice in Manipur.
