Imphal, Mar 3:
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, has praised the Manipur Legislative Assembly for adopting a resolution calling for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants and for urging the central government to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur. In a statement issued by Nerish Mangang, Secretary Information Public Relations, FOCS, it was expressed that FOCS warmly welcomes the resolution regarding the termination of SoO and the implementation of NRC during the ongoing 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. The proactive stance taken by the assembly representatives has garnered appreciation from all sectors of society. FOCS believes that the Central Government will duly honor the resolution passed by the state assembly.
The statement further elucidated that the Union Home Ministry and the Union Defence Ministry are cognizant of the prevailing crisis in the state, attributed to attacks by Kuki militants engaged in the Suspension of Operation, posing a threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur. It emphasized the imperative for both the people and the government to counter the aspirations for Zalengam by the illegal Chin-Kuki community, while urging immediate action against Kuki terrorists to safeguard India’s integrity. FOCS reiterated its appeal to the central government, urging it to comprehend the precarious situation in Manipur and to act upon the resolution adopted by the Manipur Legislative Assembly for the abrogation of SoO with Kuki militants and the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
