FOCS Bishnupur rejects Th. Manihar’s resignation

Bishnupur, March 11:

The Bishnupur unit of the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) has objected to the resignation of Th. Manihar, former president of FOCS, stating that his remarks have been misinterpreted and exaggerated.
Th. Manihar recently stated that only Meiteis and Nagas are indigenous people of Manipur. His comment, made during a peace rally organized by FOCS, sparked controversy, particularly among the Meitei Pangal community, which objected to the exclusion of Pangals from the list of indigenous groups. The rally was later stopped by the police.
Following the backlash, Th. Manihar resigned from his position. However, FOCS Bishnupur has rejected his resignation, arguing that his statement was misconstrued and unnecessarily blown out of proportion. The unit asserted that they stand by Manihar and cannot accept his resignation over what they believe is an overreaction to his remarks.
