Floods worsen, Hospitals and DC Offices submerged

The ongoing floods in Manipur have disrupted normal life on an unprecedented scale, with administrative offices, hospitals, power facilities, highways, and thousands of households coming under water following days of relentless rainfall.
In Imphal East, the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, and the Power Station at Kongba were among the major establishments affected by floodwaters, raising concerns over healthcare, electricity supply, and relief coordination. Volunteers and officials are still struggling to seal breaches along the Iril River, which has spilled across vast stretches of the district, inundating residential areas and even relief camps.
Several localities including Yaingangpokpi, Seijang, Lamlai, Kshetrigao, Kongpal, Wangkhei, Porompat, and Sawombung remain under floodwaters, forcing many families to abandon their homes. Meanwhile, Thoubal district faces its own crisis as the Thoubal and Wangjing rivers overflowed, unleashing flash floods across Wangjing, Tentha, Sangaiyumpham, Khangabok, Thoubal, Lilong, Mayang Imphal, and Yairipok.
Adding to the woes, landslides and mudslides triggered by incessant rains have paralyzed movement on key national highways. Traffic on NH-2 between Senapati and Mao Gate, NH-102A connecting Tadubi to Ukhrul, and NH-129 linking Maram to Peren has been disrupted, hampering both relief efforts and the movement of essential supplies.
Wabagai Kendra MLA Usham Deben has highlighted the worsening flood situation in his constituency, where several areas remain inundated following continuous rainfall. The legislator inspected the affected localities and assured residents that necessary relief measures would be taken up to address the crisis.
Early Monday morning, the Iril River broke its banks at Kshetrigao in Imphal East, leaving most houses under water and daily life severely disrupted. Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan described the situation as unprecedented, noting that water levels had reached heights unseen in recent years. He pointed out that the opening of five gates of the Dolaithabi Dam on Sunday afternoon had caused the river to swell rapidly by evening, flooding several localities.
The MLA further explained that from yesterday evening until early morning today, he and local residents had attempted to reinforce the riverbank with soil, but rising waters overpowered their efforts. Areas such as Sabal Lekai, Nungthin Saibi, Mamang Sabal Lekai, and Khetri Awang Lekai have already been inundated, leaving around 4,000 houses submerged.
