The recent prolonged heavy downpour caused the Wangjing River to overflow resulting in heavy flooding at sangaiyumpham and Tentha area under Thoubal District.  While the flood has receded slowly at Sangaiyumpham, the situation at Tentha is very critical and residents are reeling under the effect with more than 2000 hectares of paddy field getting submerged and more than 300 houses either getting destroyed or being swept away. Most of the fish farms in the area have also been destroyed, reported our correspondent. The situation got worse when the embankment of Wangjing River between Tentha khongban and Tentha khunou collapsed at around midnight yesterday. It may be mentioned that the same embankment have been broken earlier on 9 June causing huge loss in the area. Wangjing-Tentha Kendra MLA Paonam Brojen deployed JCB and TATA Dippers along with a large number of labourers since yesterday to prevent the breakage with the rising water level. Former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta also chipped in with vehicles and labourers. Social Worker Haobam Roben Singh of Wangjing also distributed water storage tanks to the affected people.
