Imphal, June 3,

Five cadres of three different rebel groups were arrested by Assam Rifles troopers of the Singngat battalion, while trying to enter at Indian side from Myanmar.

A source from the Assam Rifles said that the five rebels were arrested during a 3 day long operation conducted by the Singngat Battalion under the aegis of Churachandpur Sector.

According to the Assam Rifle source the arrested rebels belong to UNLF, PREPAK (RA) and PREPAK. It added that they were run- away rebels from their camps in Myanmar and were illegally crossing the India – Myanmar Border.

Those arrested are between the age group of 19 to 35 years and have had basic training in their camps across the border. Poor living conditions, extremely low salaries and the constant danger looming over their head prompted them to escape from these camps, the source said.

Post questioning and ascertaining their identity the insurgents were handed over to the Police.

The Assam Rifles source added that the arrest of five hardcore insurgents without any collateral damage proves the highest levels of training of Assam Rifles and the security forces and speaks volumes about the bravery of men in uniform. It has not only thwarted the nefarious intentions of these Insurgent groups and proved and re established the writ of the government in the remote parts of the state bordering the Indo Myanmar Border  but  is also a sound indicator of transition  to normalcy and the same will  go a long way in maintaining peace and tranquility in Manipur and North East as a whole , which is the aim of Assam Rifles, the Assam Rifles source said.
