Five MLA representatives seek retention of Churachandpur DSO N. Jayanta

Five representatives of MLAs from Thanlon, Henglep, Churachandpur, Saikot and Singhat Assembly constituencies have clarified that they had jointly requested the state government to reconsider the proposed transfer of District Supply Officer (CAF&PD), Churachandpur, N. Jayanta Singh, and retain him in the district in the interest of public service.

The clarification came in response to a news report published by Imphal Times under the headline, “Churachandpur residents question MLA’s move to Retain DSO”.

In a letter dated July 22, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur, the five representatives stated that N. Jayanta Singh had been working in close coordination with them and other stakeholders since May 3, 2023, ensuring the effective implementation of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the district.

According to the representatives, despite the prevailing challenges in Churachandpur, the distribution of essential commodities had continued smoothly and efficiently without any major discrepancy.

They maintained that the officer’s familiarity with the local situation, experience and commitment were important for the successful implementation of several ongoing departmental initiatives, particularly the e-KYC drive and the introduction of the new electronic Point of Sale (ePOS) system.

The representatives cautioned that transferring the officer at this stage and posting a new official could create administrative difficulties, disrupt ongoing programmes and cause unnecessary hardship to beneficiaries dependent on the PDS.

They therefore urged the Commissioner to retain Jayanta Singh as DSO, Churachandpur, until the ongoing assignments were successfully completed, citing administrative continuity and the larger public interest.

Speaking in clarification to Imphal Times, the representatives also asserted that, although some sections might have reservations, a majority of the people in Churachandpur district were satisfied with the officer’s performance and services.

The letter was signed by Khambiakmuan, representative of the MLA of Thanlon; Thangchinkhup Haokip, representative of the MLA of Henglep; Jimmy Vaiphei, representative of the MLA of Churachandpur; N. Munluo, representative of the MLA of Saikot; and M. John Zou, representative of the MLA of Singhat.

A copy of the representation was also forwarded to the Director of CAF&PD, Manipur.
