Imphal, Sept 13:
The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM) successfully conducted a five-day workshop aimed at developing sample questions for the upcoming 2024 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations. Held at the BoSEM headquarters, the workshop marked a significant step toward improving the educational assessment process in the state.
BoSEM Chairman Akham Joykumar highlighted that organizing such a workshop had been a long-standing goal of the Board, although previous attempts had faced various challenges. The initiative was designed to focus on key aspects of question paper development, including creating balanced questions and accurately assessing students’ abilities.
In his address, Chairman Joykumar stressed the importance of evaluation in education, noting that well-constructed questions and examinations are essential to understanding the overall health of the educational system. “Effective evaluation plays a crucial role in measuring student capabilities, and this workshop aims to ensure that our question papers are both balanced and error-free,” he said.
A key issue raised during the workshop was the lack of awareness regarding question-setting and evaluation techniques, particularly in the hill districts. To tackle this, the workshop included detailed discussions on improving these practices and updating examination formats. One significant change proposed was the revision of answer script formats for HSLC exams, making them more student-friendly. This new format will be applied to all subjects except Mathematics, which will retain its current structure.
Over 40 teachers participated in the workshop, which concluded with the distribution of certificates to all attendees. The event aimed to enhance the quality of evaluation and ensure a fair and comprehensive assessment process for students across Manipur.
