Fitness sector witnesses growth in Manipur

Imphal, Jan 31:

The trend of working out in gyms is fast catching up with the people of Manipur. As people increasingly become aware of the need to lead a healthy life, large number of gyms are opening up across the state.
Be it Arambam Bobby or Khundrakpam Pradipkumar – the state has produced many international level bodybuilders.
People in Manipur have the passion to look smart and fit. And, this trend is now become a fashion statement for the young.
In recent years, fitness centres in Imphal city are mushrooming with the growing health consciousness among the people.
There are over a dozen of fitness centres in Imphal, each having over 500 members.
“I have joined here since last month and I find myself very good. Before coming here I heard good news about this fitness centre from my friend and my friends have also improved a lot not only health wise but mentally that’s why I joined this fitness centre.” said Jasmarani, a fitness enthusiast.
“Nowadays everyone is conscious about health and fitness because if we go for gym regularly it can protect us from any disease and it’s good for physical and mental fitness in day-to-day life,” said fitness enthusiast Helly Laikangbam.
Apunba fitness center, run by a former muscleman Yumnam Hemlet, is one such centre equipped with latest equipments and has qualified fitness trainers.
With a client list consisting of people from different age groups, the center is doing business of up to Rs.10 lakhs per month.
“The response is very good. In Manipur people are crazy about fitness so most of the people come here to work out starting from young age to old age,” said Yumnam Hemlet, owner, Apunba fitness center.
Bodybuilding is extremely popular among Manipuri youth and the state has produced a number of world class bodybuilders.
With this new trend of fitness centres, the youth in the region are increasingly becoming motivated to lead a healthy life and stay away from any bad habits. (Courtesy: ANI)
