Fish festival; Manipur still import 30 metric tonnes of fish for Ningol Chakouba

Director of Fisheries and Staff Government of Manipur organized a Fish fair cum fish crop competition, at ISBT Khuman lampak in Imphal.
Addressing as chief guest Minister for Commerce and Industries Minister, Govindas Konthoujam said that the indigenous fish Pengba are now successfully available in Loktak lake under the initiative of ministry of agriculture. He further added that state government has planned to establish a fish market at the greater Imphal area as fish items is a compulsory food menu for almost every household.
Minister of Agri and Fisheries Manipur, Abdul Nasir said that Manipur requires 40 metric ton of fish for the Ningol Chakhouba, however 30 metric ton are produced in the state and the remaining are imported from the other state. In Manipur 56461 hector are available for fisheries but only 19400 hector are used.
