The Lamp Lighting and Oath-Taking Ceremony for the first batch of B.Sc. Nursing students from Universal College of Nursing, Yairipok in Thoubal district was held today at the College Auditorium, marking a significant milestone in the college’s journey. The 35 students of the first batch were initiated into the nursing profession with a traditional lamp-lighting tribute to “Florence Nightingale – the Lady with the Lamp” and an Oath Taking ceremony.
The event was graced by Prof. Ng. Nimai Singh, Controller of Examinations, Manipur University, Dr. Nimai Chand Luwang, Chairman of Universal College of Nursing, Dr. Ch. Chandramani Singh, Former Director of the Directorate of Health Services, Dr. O. Sanahanbi Devi, Additional Director (MD) of the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur, Dr. Aribam Jamuna Devi, Registrar of Manipur Nursing Council, Nepram Premila Devi, Nursing Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Imphal, and Prof. Th. Nandarani Devi, Principal of Universal College of Nursing, who served as the Chief Guest, President, Guests of Honour, and Chief Host respectively. Prof. Ng. Nimai Singh, Controller of Examinations, Manipur University, presented awards to the meritorious students of the college.
During her speech, Prof. Th. Nandarani Devi, Principal of Universal College of Nursing, stated that with this momentous occasion, the college has established itself as a pioneer in nursing education in Manipur. The college is dedicated to providing high-quality nursing education to meritorious students from economically weaker families in Manipur.
She informed the audience that the college has facilitated the pursuit of B.Sc. Nursing courses by these students through educational loans from leading banks like the State Bank of India, minimizing the financial burden on their parents. She also mentioned that the college provides placement opportunities for its students in leading hospitals in Delhi upon completion of the 4-year B.Sc. Nursing Program.
Established in 2023, Universal College of Nursing, Yairipok, is the only B.Sc. Nursing College in Thoubal District. The college, with a capacity of 40 seats, is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Manipur Nursing Council and is affiliated with Manipur University. It is also affiliated with RIMS Hospital, Imphal, for clinical exposure and practical training for its students. The college aims to play a leading role in imparting high-quality professional healthcare education and training to the meritorious youth of Manipur.
