Imphal, Mar 2:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) concluded the Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2024, a week-long event held from February 26 to March 01, 2024. With the theme “Make a right start, become financially smart,” and three sub-themes: (i) Saving and Power of Compounding, (ii) Banking Essentials for Students, and (iii) Digital and Cyber Hygiene, the FLW-2024 aimed to enhance financial literacy, particularly among students and young adults.
Recognizing the importance of financial literacy, especially among the youth who are beginning to navigate personal finance complexities, the RBI focused on empowering them with essential financial skills. These skills enable individuals to make informed decisions, set financial goals, and plan for their future, thereby establishing a solid foundation for long-term financial security and success.
Aligned with the theme, the RBI’s Imphal Office organized various activities throughout the week to impart financial knowledge to the target audience. The opening ceremony on February 26, 2024, saw the Chief General Manager of RBI, Imphal, inaugurating the event. Dignitaries from the Government of Manipur, NABARD, and banks addressed the audience. Additionally, a panel discussion involving approximately 90 teachers from various educational institutions in Manipur was conducted, focusing on disseminating financial literacy through educators.
Continuing the initiative, a quiz competition for college students was held on February 27, 2024, attracting participants from fifteen colleges. Elangbam Jenson Singh and Tafshir Ahmed of D.M. College of Arts secured the first prize, followed by Md. Sahid and Md. Sakil Rezvi of Lilong Haoreibi College in second place, and Ms. Dineshpriya Tongbam and Ms. Sagapam Lakhipriya Devi of S. Kula College in third place.
On February 28, 2024, a poster-making competition with slogans on the “Role of Banks in our Society” engaged forty-seven students from twenty-three schools. Ms. Kshetrimayum Chitrangada Devi of Nirmalabas High School clinched the first prize, with Ambelika Mutum of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School securing second place, and Ms. Shryeea Thongam of Nirmalabas High School taking third place.
The valedictory function on March 1, 2024, witnessed representatives from various stakeholders, including NABARD, bankers, and MSRLM, interacting with entrepreneurs, farmers, and SHG members. Certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the winners of both competitions, with Anna Arambam, IAS, Director of Institutional Finance, gracing the event as the Chief Guest. Three consolation prizes were also presented to participants, further highlighting the commitment to promoting financial literacy and responsible financial management among the youth and broader community.
