Fierce gun battle between SF and NSCN-IM

A fierce gun –battle occurred today at around 5.30 am near Chingmei Kabui Village (Pungsangmei) , about 12 Km south from Khoupum Police Station in Kangpokpi district.

Report said that the gun fight took place after a team of 29 Assam Rifles were reportedly attacked using sophisticated weapons by a group of armed militants suspected to be NSCN-IM.

Video records show panic villagers running and crying with fear. Assam Rifles source said that they maintain maximum control while retaliating the gun fight to avoid civilian casualty.  It said that over 10 armed militants fully equipped with sophisticated weapons were present at the site. Till the filing of this report more AR troopers had been reinforced and the AR troopers cordoned the village, while another troops are hunting for the armed militants.

It may be mention that two NSCN-IM cadres were reportedly injured during a gunfight with combined troop of Manipur Police Commando and 29 Assam Rifles at Laimaton area in Bishnupur district last week.

The gunfight took place in Old Cachar road between Laimaton and 7 Km from upper Ngaryan around 4pm of November 7. The two injured cadres were identified as Jaoilen Chiru age 26 – s/o Pachoieng Chiru, of Sadu Chiru village PO & PS Nambol and Jainthaningam longmei age 41- s/o Lungbulung longmei of Chiniken village.

One AK Assault rifles with magazine, one pistol with magazine, 3-mobile phones, extortion receipts, some cash, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID and one ATM Card were also recovered. The two injured NSCN I’M cadres and recovered items were handed over to Bishnupur police. The two injured NSCN-IM cadres were undergoing treatment at Bishnupur district hospital.
