Festival of Tribal and Manipuri Folk Music kicks off

Actors’ Repertory Theatre, Manipur under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of Manipur has kicks off a two-day-long Festival of Tribal and Media Folk Music of Manipur here today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Folk music artists of various Manipuri tribes and communities of the state- Liyangmei, Kom, Tarao, Purul, Maring, Kabui, Meetei are participating in the festival.
The festival aims at reviving the diminishing art forms of various tribal in the state, said Kshetri Jugindro, Festival Director while giving his key note address in the inaugural function.
He said there are number of folk artistes who are unheard and remain unsung their contributions in the field due to lack   of people’s interest and promotional activities from the side of the government.
Dr Mankhonmani Mongsaba, Cultural Activist; Ph Gunachandra Sharma, Life-Time President, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council; Rajesh Salam, Cultural Activist and Kh Bhubon Singh, Archivist /Senior Officer, Manipur State Kala Akademy, Manipur attended the function as presidium members.
