Recalling the roles played by the players of Manipur and to encourage and strengthen the sports personalities among youngsters, the outstanding sports personalities have been felicitated by Oinam Romen Singh, the Intending Candidate of Singjamei Assembly Constituency in the upcoming State General Assembly Election 2022 in the National People’s Party (NPP) Ticket.
The various Sports Personalities of Singjamei Constituency in different Categories of Sports such as Thang Ta, Cycling, Body Building etc. have been felicitated with Cash Rewards, Shawls and incentives.
During the Felicitation Programme organised by the National People’s Party (NPP) Singjamei Block and the National People’s Youth Fronth (NPYF) Singjamei Block under his exclusive sponsorship held at his residence, Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Imphal West District Manipur this afternoon, Romen Singh said that it is time to elevate the importance of youth sports and the positive impact it has on the emotional and physical well-being of youths. He said that sports are a great way for teens to form an identity outside their families, localities and abroad.
Romen Singh said that the players who got significant place and medals in the National and International levels were felicitated by the government instead of grooming them from the grassroots level. Sports personalities should be encouraged and groomed from the very grassroots level even during the time of their childhood so that they can have the opportunity of sports participation in school times. There should be at least a sports discipline in school curriculum and syllabus. Only when the habit of participating in the sports discipline during the school times, they can be easily pave a way to be sports persons, Romen Singh remarked.
Romen Singh said that the government should make a Sports Policy. Until and unless a Sports Policy is formulated, many of the medals of National and International levels cannot be taken up. He said that if he is voted to power in the ensuing State General Election, he will surely make a Sports Policy for grooming up and upliftment of players and coaches as well. Players take a vital role for a State and the country to make recognition to the world and as such their contributions cannot be set aside. Felicitating after their achievements is not a good sign, the good sign should be nothing but to groom them up from their early stage so that they can afford any sports item they like to choose as their optional.
Romen Singh further said that setting up of a Sports Academy is very much needed in which Coaching Classes of each and every sports discipline may be maintained to ensure the younger sports personalities participate in it with an enthusiastic way. He said that most of the players could not participate in many National and International levels due to lack of supporters. So the state government should look into the matter at the earliest. Only when the State Government takes up the initiatives, they can be kept away from any psychotropic substances, Romen assured.
During the Felicitation Function, Senjam Surjit Singh, the State General Secretary of the National People’s Party (NPP) Manipur Unit, L. Gunadohor Singh, Advisor, NPP Singjamei Block and K. Harimohan Singh, President, NPP Singjamei Block attended as Presidium members.
