Federation of Haomee opposes move to induct Kuki MLAs into Cabinet

The Federation of Haomee has strongly objected to the reported move by the Manipur government to induct Kuki MLAs—who earlier demanded a separate administration—into ministerial positions. The organisation cautioned that such a step would go against public sentiment and threaten Manipur’s territorial integrity.
In a statement issued by H. Bharat Meitei, Secretary (Publicity), the Federation warned that giving Cabinet posts to MLAs who have distanced themselves from the Manipur Assembly and supported a separate Kuki administration would amount to rewarding secessionist tendencies.
“These MLAs have operated from outside the state, including Delhi and Guwahati, avoiding the State Secretariat. Now, offering them ministerial posts is a betrayal to the people who have suffered violence, displacement, and destruction,” the statement said.
The Federation alleged that communities backing the separate administration demand were responsible for widespread arson, displacement, and atrocities, including crimes against women and children. It questioned how those demanding administrative separation could now be entrusted with governance roles.
Calling on both the state and central governments to uphold the Constitution and the unity of Manipur, the statement warned against appeasement politics. “Every Indian state has the right to protect its boundaries. Any compromise will only invite unrest,” it stated.
The Federation also accused major political parties of playing with Manipur’s crisis for electoral gain and urged ministers from Manipur to take a clear and firm stand before the Centre on this sensitive matter.
