Farmers report gunshots in Chanung, Police deny incident

Tension arose in Chanung village, located approximately 7 km east of Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district, after farmers working in the fields reportedly fled in panic following what they described as the sound of gunshots coming from a nearby hill range around 11:21 AM today.
The area lies close to two Kuki villages—Chingdai Khullen and C. Joulen—which are situated in the hills overlooking the fields.
However, the Manipur Police have officially denied any reports of firing in the region. In a statement issued on X, Manipur Police refuted the claims of a firing incident in the region. Both Yaingangpokpi and Sagolmang Police Stations, along with personnel of the 4 Mahar Regiment currently stationed in and around the area, confirmed that no firing reports were received from any security agency.
“Further information is being collected to ascertain the facts. The public is requested not to believe in or spread unverified rumours “ stated the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Manipur Police.
