Imphal, April 7:
In a continued effort to revive fading traditional customs and address the growing deviations in marriage and engagement practices, Enat Yokhatpa Luptin (EYOL) organized its 13th awareness programme at its office premises today. The event was attended by tent house service providers from across Manipur.
The programme, held at 2:30 PM, brought together members of EYOL and professionals involved in ceremonial services to collectively reflect on the importance of preserving the state’s rich cultural traditions. The discussions focused on the need to correct modern practices in marriage and engagement ceremonies that often stray from established customs.
Participants emphasized the importance of performing rituals with sincerity and genuine respect for elders, rather than reducing them to mere formalities. The forum also highlighted concerns over increasing extravagance in ceremonies, including unnecessary expenses, food wastage, and the emergence of dowry-like practices, all of which were seen as departures from the essence of traditional values.
Tent house service providers were urged to take an active role in promoting culturally rooted, modest arrangements that align with traditional values. Speakers stressed that such collective efforts could help build a more respectful and meaningful cultural atmosphere in Manipur.
EYOL reaffirmed its commitment to the campaign, stating that restoring traditional practices and fostering cultural awareness is essential for strengthening community bonds and shaping a more dignified and vibrant future for the people of the state.
