Imphal, Oct. 8:

Awangpat Loukol, the only farmland used by the residents of Keirao Makting have been encroached upon by some persons causing the area used for farming by the community to diminish.
In order to maintain the exact area as before the encroachment began, a survey along with officials from the Revenue Department will be conducted to demarcate and preserve the area, stated MI Khan, Chief Advisor, Awangpat Loukol Farmers Development Club (ALFDC), Keirao Makting. Speaking at a press conference at Keirao Makting yesterday, MI Khan also stated that even though village elders have been working for the last twenty years to develop the farmland, some persons have started encroaching upon the particular farmland without proper registration claiming that their forefathers have been looking after the patches they are claiming as theirs.
He further added that the farmers club has been registered with the cooperative department which would enable taking up various development measures from time to time, while announcing the decision that any activity within the farmland area should be taken up only with prior permission of the club. He also invites anyone desirous of becoming a member of the club to do so at the earliest.
