The district administration of Imphal West today conducted an extensive eviction drive along the stretch from Keishampat to Malom on the Imphal Airport Road. The operation targeted unauthorized structures encroaching upon roadsides and footpaths, which have long contributed to traffic congestion and inconvenience to pedestrians.
The drive was carried out under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mayanglangbam Rajkumar and supported by personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and officials from the Revenue Department. A JCB excavator was deployed to remove makeshift shops, sheds, house extensions, and other illegally constructed structures along the route.
Deputy Commissioner Rajkumar stated that the operation is being conducted under the provisions of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978. He added that this is part of a broader initiative to decongest roads in the state capital and to improve accessibility along one of the busiest routes to Imphal Airport. He further appealed to shopkeepers and residents not to encroach upon public land, cautioning that the eviction drive will continue.
