Ethnic violence of Manipur engulfed Jiribam into boiling pot, reinforcement reach Jiribam

Jiribam, June 8:

The district of Jiribam, known for its peaceful coexistence, has been engulfed in a new wave of violence following the brutal murder of Soibam Saratkumar.
Saratkumar was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday evening while returning from his farm. His killing has served as a flashpoint, reigniting longstanding ethnic tensions in the region.
In the aftermath, an irate mob unleashed a spate of violence in Jiribam. yesterday armed miscreants burned down an estimated 70 houses of meitei-dominated villages of Lamtai khunou, Narayanpur, and Bhutangkhal under Brorobekra Sub-division of Jiribam District. Government properties, including the Jirimukh Forest Beat and Chotobekra Police Check post, were also set ablaze.
To quell the unrest, security reinforcements have been urgently airlifted from Imphal to Jiribam by helicopter. Authorities are working to restore law and order and prevent the situation from escalating further.
