Imphal, Dec 20: Education Minister of Manipur, Kh Ratankumar Singh has inaugurated a residential school of Imphal West district today at Lamboi Khongnangkhong here.
The school, which was established under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) will provide free education to 100 backward students (boys and girls) of VI-VIII. Residential schools under SSA are running successfully in nine districts of the state, said Ratankumar, while delivering speech at the inaugural function of the school.
He also informed that the state government has proposed the Center to add class IX and X to residential schools under SSA. Separate residential school Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya under SSA has also been also been opened for girl students of the district.
The Education Minister also urged the local people to extend support in imparting quality education by the newly established residential school for the backward students of the district.
Minister Calls To Stay Calm
In connection with the prevailing law and order situation in the state, the Minister also appealed the mass to stay calm and not to provoke communal flare. In such a critical juncture, all the people in the state should join hands and stand against reactionaries. All should working towards maintaining communal harmony and co-existence.
