Elderly woman brutally murdered in Charhajare; Valuables looted

A 63-year-old woman was brutally murdered at her residence in Charhajare in Kangpokpi district on the night of May 3 in a chilling incident that has triggered widespread outrage and renewed concerns over law and order. The victim, identified as Puspa Devi, wife of Nakul Poudel and a native of Toribari, was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants who also looted valuables from her house.
According to preliminary reports, the attack took place around 10 pm of May 3 when the assailants reportedly entered her residence and carried out the gruesome killing before fleeing with gold, cash and other belongings. The victim was living with her mentally challenged brother and had no immediate dependants, making the crime particularly disturbing for the local community.
A team from Sapermeina Police Station reached the scene today morning and has launched an investigation. Police officials have begun questioning local residents and are examining multiple angles, including robbery and targeted attack. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Condemning the incident, the Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union described the killing as a “barbaric and inhuman act” and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. The organisation also called for swift justice and enhanced protection for vulnerable sections of society.
