EGM Condemns killing of reporter in Tripura

Imphal, Sept. 22: The Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) strongly condemn killing of Shantanu Bhowmik, a reporter of Dinraat Channel, of Tripura by a mob on 20 September 2017. Bhowmik was killed when he was doing his duty of collecting news of a class between two groups in Tripura. In a press statement the EGM shows its solidarity with the Tripura Journalists Union, the Agartala Press Club and Tripura Working journalists Association. “We here in Manipur too know the pressure under which journalist world over work and hence extend our solidarity. We support the demand of the various journalist organization of Tripura and ask Tripura Government book the culprits and book them under the law of the land. We also support the demand for handing over the case to CBI. EGM considers any attack on any journalist weather in Manipur, Tripura or any where in the world as attack on the freedom speech so essential for functioning of the media”, the EGM statement said.
