Imphal, Aug 1 :
Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinasinlon (EECHAL) celebrated its 19th Foundation Day at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Policelane, Imphal. The event featured the presentation of gifts to former executives of EECHAL, leaders of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and media persons.
EECHAL President Tongbram Ibemcha spoke to the media, highlighting the organization’s origins and objectives. EECHAL was founded in 2005 at Yaiskul Policelane by Maharajkumari Binodini, who served as the Chief Guest meeting attended by 102 like-minded women.
President Ibemcha emphasized that the primary goal of EECHAL is to combat the increasing influence of mainland culture on their society, which she believes threatens the traditional production of clothes, indigenous culture, religion and local weavers.
She stressed the importance of reviving indigenous culture and traditions and working for the welfare of the land. Ibemcha pointed out that the intermingling of outside cultures is affecting various aspects of their lives, from birth to death and weddings. She declared that EECHAL will not remain silent when their traditional culture is under threat.
Ibemcha also addressed the ongoing crisis between the Kuki and Meitei communities, noting that women and the state economy are suffering the most. She affirmed that EECHAL participates in various areas with other CSOs and is a member of JCILPS and PPCM, continuing to support and join the people’s movement.
