Education Minister has high hope in changing state’s Higher education with RUSA

State Education Minister Kh Ratankumar today stressed on how the new scheme of the government of India called Rastriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) will bring a tremendous change to the Higher Education Scenario of the state.

 

Speaking to the inaugural function of the one day Media workshop on RUSA , the National Higher Education Mission  and the state of Higher Education in Manipur, the Education Minister acknowledge the present state of the Higher Education centers.

 

“We know our colleges do not have proper infrastructures as well as adequate number of teachers, but with the coming of RUSA we are sure that we would be able to bring tremendous changes to the state of affairs of the colleges in the State”, Kh Ratan said.

 

A technical session was also held in the afternoon with Prof. L. Sadananda as the moderator and Additional director Education (U) Yaiskul, Nodal Officer RUSA , Oliver Monsang and Senior Journalist Ak Sanaton as the resource persons.

 

Vineet Joshi IAS, Commissioner, higher & Technical education, Th Chitra Devi, IAS, Director (Univ& Hr. education) and A Mobi, President Editors’ Guild Manipur beside the Educations Minister Kh Ratankumar also share the dice in the inaugural function.

 

RUSA is a pilot scheme of the Government of India introduced for improvement of the Higher education sectors of the country in October 2013.

 

“Since I take charge as the Education Minister, implementation of RUSA has been considered as top priority”, Ratan said and added that after the implementation of RUSA in 2015 many basic requirements of the colleges have been filled.

 

The Government of India cannot directly fund for purpose of the Higher education as it has to be through the University Grant Commission (UGC), certain pre-requisite sectors need to be established for the implementation of RUSA. Ratan further added that the state government had passed a Bill for setting up of State Higher Education Council, which is the implementing agency of RUSA Scheme.

 

“We have passed the Bill for setting up of State Higher Education Council and we are waiting governor’s assent”, the Education minister said.

 

During the technical session Additional Director Yaiskul and Nodal Officer of RUSA Oliver Monsang said that as per the directives of the Union HRD Minister the State education Council for implementation of RUSA has been set up by an executive order in October 2015. This was after getting approval by the state cabinet as per the directives of the Human Resource Ministry of the Government of India.

 

The technical session elaborated about the feature of the RUSA by the resource persons.
