The economic blockade imposed along National Highway-2 at Namdilong in Imphal West district continued for the ninth consecutive day, with members of the Naga community, particularly local Liangmai Nagas under the aegis of the Koubru Range Liangmai Women Union, maintaining their protest against the killing of six Liangmai Naga men.
The blockade, which began on June 5, was launched in response to the alleged abduction and subsequent killing of six Liangmai Nagas, who were reportedly taken away by suspected Kuki armed groups on May 13. The bodies of the victims were recovered recently after weeks of uncertainty, triggering widespread outrage and protests across Naga-inhabited areas of the state.
At Namdilong, around 15 to 20 local volunteers were seen checking and monitoring vehicular movement along the NH-2 stretch. Protesters continued to prevent the transportation of goods and essential commodities towards Gamgiphai and Kangpokpi district, while allowing the movement of passenger vehicles and emergency services.
The blockade forms part of a series of demonstrations held by various Naga civil society organisations demanding justice for the victims and action against those responsible for the killings. The incident has sparked strong reactions from Naga bodies across Manipur, with several organisations condemning the killings and calling for enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas.
