The Election Commission of India (ECI) has invited Party Presidents and senior leaders of all National and State political parties for an interaction aimed at strengthening electoral processes within the legal framework. The Commission has also sought suggestions from political parties by April 30, 2025, regarding any unresolved issues at the level of Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), District Election Officers (DEO), or Chief Electoral Officers (CEO).
In a letter issued today, the ECI emphasized the importance of regular engagement with political parties. It highlighted the need to resolve concerns within the established legal framework, which includes the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, Election Rules, and guidelines issued by the Commission.
This initiative follows a conference held last week, where Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar directed all CEOs, DEOs, and EROs to hold frequent meetings with political parties and submit an action-taken report by March 31, 2025. The Commission urged political parties to proactively engage in these discussions and leverage the decentralized grievance resolution mechanism in place.
The ECI reaffirmed that political parties are among the 28 key stakeholders in the electoral process and play a crucial role in ensuring free and fair elections. The Commission stated that its legal and procedural framework—available on the ECI website—is designed to uphold transparency and robustness in the electoral system.
